HBMA Billing: The Journal of the Healthcare Billing and Management Association

It's a New Year

Resolve to Make the Most of Your HBMA Membership

At the turn of the year, many of us take on new goals. We want to eat healthier, exercise more, or maybe take on a new hobby. We strive to make new and meaningful additions to our lives. But rarely is the New Year a time for people to take stock of what they already have and may not be making the most of – like your HBMA membership.

As an HBMA member, you have access to a myriad of benefits. There are multiple professional development opportunities through webinars and two conferences, access to a vast network of your peers, and, of course, a subscription to Billing.

But this is only the beginning. Here are just a few of the additional benefits you receive as an HBMA member:

The HBMA Affinity/Members Value Program is a partnering initiative focused on saving HBMA members money and time in finding the right resources to keep their business running effectively and successfully. Through this program, you get access to:

  • Products. HBMA members get discounts on key products to help you run your business, including ICD-10 coding books, business apparel and logos, office products, and more. The average member saved more than $1,000 on their 2016 coding books and resources. With the average cost of membership being $800, these savings alone make membership worth it.

  • Continuing education. HBMA offers exclusive discounts on tuition and courses for members to continue their healthcare management education.
  • Business services. HBMA members can take advantage of partnerships with companies that offer remittance and reporting, credentialing technology, payment processing, and legal services, to name a few.

Learn more about the Affinity/Members Value Program by visiting hbma.org/member-value-program.php.

Members can also take advantage of the Certified Healthcare Billing Management Executive (CHBME) program. As a CHBME, you demonstrate your commitment to professional development and differentiate yourself from other billers. We recently revised the program to offer more opportunities to earn CEUs. Learn more by visiting hbma.org/news/chbme-news/n_chbme-certification, and don't forget to take the quizzes in each issue of Billing to earn CEUs!

Finally, HBMA members can enjoy a new benefit in 2016. We recently announced a partnership with the Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission (EHNAC) to accredit medical billers in the areas of privacy, security, confidentiality, cybersecurity, business best practices, and technical operations. This program will be called the Healthcare Network Accreditation Program (HNAP) for Medical Billers, and HBMA member organizations will receive exclusive discounts on the program. Keep an eye out for more information on HNAP to come soon.

As you ring in the New Year, take stock of all the opportunities HBMA offers its members. From continuing education, certification, and product and service discounts to networking and volunteer opportunities, HBMA membership is one of the most valuable assets you can have for the growth and long-term success of your business and career. Visit hbma.org to take stock of your benefits.
