This webinar aims to update the billing community on the No Surprises Act (NSA) arbitration forum. I will discuss critical information billing companies need to know in order to maximize revenue for their clients and their practices and how to remain compliant with NSA requirements and timelines. Lastly, I will review the intricacies of the process itself, including the overwhelmingly positive results for medical providers, and some of the challenges, including case identification, eligibility, tight deadlines, and enforcing IDR decisions (i.e. getting the carriers to pay).

Webinar Objectives:
Course participants will be able to:

  • Learn about the NSA and its requirements
  • Learn about the details of navigating the process
  • Learn how to collect overdue awards

Speaker Bio:
James Greenspan concentrates his practice on the representation of medical providers in reimbursement disputes with commercial health insurance carriers. James’ practice is active in the New Jersey, New York and Federal “Surprise Bill” arbitration forums, as well as State and Federal litigation. Over the past ten plus years, James has won thousands of arbitration awards and recovered over 100 million dollars for his medical provider clients.

James is a former member of the Forthright Advisory Council for No-Fault Disputes in the State of New Jersey, which is responsible for revising arbitration rules and the selection and review of dispute resolution professionals. He has also lectured for the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education on the topic of PIP arbitrations, and for the New Jersey Society of Plastic Surgeons, the New York Regional Society of Plastic Surgeons, and the Healthcare Financial Management Association on The No Surprises Act arbitration process and medical revenue recovery.

James also negotiated an important settlement in Prime Neuro Spine Institute v. Maximus, Inc., in which James represented a group of New Jersey medical providers in a suit against the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance (“NJ DOBI”) along with their contractor, Maximus, Inc. The settlement required the Defendants to vacate and remand four New Jersey “surprise bill” arbitration decisions that had previously been decided against the medical providers and further required Maximus to update the forum’s “frequently asked questions” webpage to prevent future confusion and misapplication of the applicable statutory requirements.

James graduated Cum Laude from Villanova University in 2006, and Seton Hall University School of Law in 2009. He is admitted to practice law in the States of New Jersey, Connecticut, and New York, and federally in The United States Districts of New Jersey and Connecticut as well as The United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
