MESSAGE FROM THE PUBLICATIONS COMMITTEE CHAIR Results of the HBMA Reader Sur vey By Cindy Groux, CHBME he Publications Committee is committed to ensuring Billing is relevant and useful to all HBMA readers. Billing is a significant part of your membership benefits, and we take that seriously. In November 2014, we distributed a Reader Survey and we asked you to share your feedback on the Billing journal. On behalf of the entire Publications Committee, I want to thank those of you who completed the survey. We truly appreciate and value your feedback. I also want to share some of the key results of the survey. Overall, we received positive feedback about the journal. HBMA members are reading the journal, using the journal, and are satisfied with its content. Here are some of the key results we compiled: • 64% of survey takers are CEOs/owners of a billing company, while 17% are in operations • The clientele composition of survey takers is as follows: 48% are hospital- and office-based practices, 39% are office-based practices only, and 5% are hospital-based practices only • 69% have read 5-6 issues of Billing in the past year • 38% read about three quarters of each issue of Billing, and 36% read nearly all of each issue of Billing • 84% rated the overall content level of Billing as “just right” • 52% said they were “satisfied” with Billing overall, and 30% said they were “very satisfied” We also asked you to share your ideas for content to include in future issues of Billing. This was where we received the most valuable feedback. For example, many of you said you’d like to see more articles about benchmarking. We’re already working to find authors to contribute on this topic. We noticed that some of you included specific questions about Billing in your survey responses. We set up the survey so that all participants were anonymous, to ensure we received candid feedback. However, this means we are unable to follow up with you directly. If you do have a specific question that has not been addressed, please contact Billing editor Emily Schmitt at eschmitt@hbma.org. HBMA NEWS Finally, I would like to give you an update on some changes we are making to the distribution of Billing in the next few months. In an effort to make Billing available to more people, we will be using Nxtbook Media to produce and distribute the digital edition of Billing. This will allow us to sell subscriptions to Billing to non- HBMA members, allowing us to reach a wider audience, bring in more revenue, and potentially recruit new members. It will also allow us to offer enhanced digital advertising opportunities to our advertisers and readers. In addition to using Nxtbook, we will move from first-class to third-class postage for the print edition. Don’t worry – you will still receive the print version of Billing in the mail, but it will reach you a little later in the month than it does now. We value the print version of Billing and know that you do, too. We made this change to help us control our costs for producing the publication. Rest assured that you will still get access to the great Billing content right away – we will release the digital edition as soon as the publication is ready, with the print version to follow shortly after. We will implement both of these changes starting with our May/June issue, and you will receive more information about how to access and utilize the Nxtbook digital edition when that issue launches. Again, we thank you for taking the time to complete our Reader Survey. We truly value your feedback. If you have more ideas for content, if you’d like to contribute an article, or if you have any questions or concerns about the changes we are implementing, please don't hesitate to contact me at cgroux@hcpm.net. THE JOURNAL OF THE HEALTHCARE BILLING AND MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION 7 T CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS! HBMA’s Publications Committee is looking for volunteers.
