Spring 2014 SPRING SYMPOSIUM Featured Speakers What a great way to enjoy a few days – in Naples, Florida, at HBMA’s exciting new Spring Educational Executive Symposium that is focused on strategic planning. The HBMA Education Committee has listened to our membership and is presenting a new and exciting format chock-full of relevant and informative educational topics. The information gleaned from these experts will be invaluable. Listed below are our speakers and an outline of their presentations: KEYNOTE SPEAKER: JACKIE FREIBERG Jackie is co-author of the book Nuts with her husband, Kevin. They explored the incredible success of Southwest Airlines (SWA) in this national best seller. The centerpiece of their research is not about SWA, but how their organizational culture is the single reason for their success. Every correct decision, employee hire, and everything they do is grounded in a firm culture. The initial step in evaluating the level of a company’s success is to take an in-depth look into the role that organizational culture plays. Jackie and Kevin have been keynote speakers at more than150 healthcare related events, including a recent national HFMA conference, so they understand our world. The failure to overlook the major impact of organizational culture can be the difference between success and floundering. Challenge yourself in this keynote address; what is your organizational culture, and is it contributing to your success or impeding it? NICOLE HARPER, PHD, MBA, RHIA, CCS@P, C@CDI Conference participants will receive up to 14 credits toward the designation of CHBME (Certified Healthcare Billing & Management Executive). The two pre-conference programs on Monday morning will each offer 4.0 additional credits. If you attended the Fall Educational Conference in Las Vegas last year, you know what a dynamic and knowledgeable presenter we have in Nicole. Her high energy and informative style made hers one of the highest rated sessions. As we approach October 1, we are certain that she will bring that same level of passion on this most critical topic. TED STACK Where is our industry headed? How will our members be impacted by healthcare reform? How will payment reform impact the services we offer? How will evolving technologies affect our capital investment planning for IT needs? Strategic planning starts here. If you read any of the reports published by Ted and his colleagues at Falcon Partners, you know what a remarkable and positive vision Ted has for our industry. However, we have to effectively position our companies so we can seize the opportunities that healthcare reform brings. Few people know the peripheral issues at the macro level that impact our industry more than Ted, so take advantage of hearing in what direction he sees our future heading.
