Survey Shows Independent Practices Want to Participate in MACRA

Survey Shows Independent Practices Want to Participate in MACRA

When MACRA was approved as a replacement to Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR), it was clear that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) was seeking a clear path to move more reimbursement to value-based care instead of fee-for-service. They have made no bones about suggesting that this is one course toward containing the high cost of healthcare.

In October, the final rule was released, providing details on how the program will work beginning in 2017. Since then, there has been a lot of information coming out as vendors and providers try to prepare. Kareo, a leading provider of solutions for independent practices, conducted a brief survey to understand how ready independent practices are for the MACRA Quality Payment Program (QPP).

The survey showed that while most practice staff and providers still aren’t sure what the impact will be to revenue or workload, they expect to participate in the QPP. This short graphic highlights the responses to the survey.

One crucial figure to note is that 50 percent of practices believe their vendors will play an important role in their success. For billing companies that provide software and services to practices, this is an important point. Practices will be relying on their billing companies to ensure they have the right software in place for success.
