Speaker Bios

Paul Kim, JD, MPH, Principal, Ober|Kaler

Paul W. Kim is a principal in the Health Law Group at Ober|Kaler who represents health care providers and manufacturers. Paul advises clients in all aspects of health law – from corporate compliance counseling to reimbursement litigation. Having worked on reimbursement, fraud and abuse, privacy and clinical research issues from the patient, provider, payor and government perspectives, Paul has a unique understanding of the health care industry and an in-depth knowledge of the issues and challenges today’s clients face.

For US and European manufacturers, Paul obtains for their products the three C’s of Medicare: coverage, coding, and cash. He also negotiates various agreements with their distributors. For providers, Paul appeals overpayment assessments by recovery audit contractors (RACs) and other Medicare contractors. He also pursues administrative law judge (ALJ) hearings to obtain or maintain their Medicare enrollment and billing privileges.

Greg Margrett, Director of Implementation, Experian Health/Passport and President, HIPAA Collaborative of Wisconsin (COW)                                                                                                                                

Greg Margrett has held a variety of roles in healthcare IT/revenue cycle management over the past 15+ years, and is currently Director of Implementation-Claims for Experian Health/Passport, a revenue cycle management company headquartered in Chicago and Franklin, TN.

Prior to joining Passport, Greg served on the product management team at Optum/Ingenix where he worked on HIE (health information exchange) products, Direct secure messaging platforms, a workers’ compensation clearinghouse, and the Netwerkes group medical clearinghouse. In addition, Greg served as the Director for Payer and Channel Partner Services at Netwerkes prior to its acquisition by Ingenix, as a payer account manager at Payerpath/Misys, and as the HIPAA/Clearinghouse Project Manager for Passport Health and Proservices.

Greg currently serves as president of HIPAA COW (the HIPAA Collaborative of Wisconsin), having served on its Board of Directors since 2007.  HIPAA COW is a regional WEDI affiliate dedicated to advancing HIPAA education and fostering best HIPAA practices throughout Wisconsin and the nation.

Greg lives in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area with his wife Deb and three children.

Nate Moore, CPA, MBA, FACMPE, Owner, Moore Solutions, Inc.

Nate Moore, CPA, MBA, FACMPE speaks, consults, records, and writes about Microsoft Excel and data mining in medical practices throughout the country. His first book, Better Data, Better Decisions: Using Business Intelligence in the Medical Practice, was published by MGMA in 2013. Nate’s presentations consistently receive top marks as powerful, entertaining tools that can be used in the clinic immediately. Nate’s consulting focuses on using SQL Server to mine and leverage medical practice data into actionable knowledge.

Nate creates a series of powerful Excel Videos at mooresolutionsinc.com demonstrating how to use Excel in a medical practice. Excel Videos have been viewed thousands and thousands of times by practice managers across America. Nate also moderates the Excel Users MGMA Community, the online resource for practice administrators to collaborate about Excel.

Michelle Ann Richards, BSHA, CPC, CPCO, CPMA, CPPM, Manager, Compliance Division US, AAPC 

Michelle is the Manager of AAPC's Compliance Division and her territory is the US. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration and has over 20 years of healthcare leadership, ethics, compliance, training & education experience. During this time she has managed the startup of many physician groups and was Director of Practice Management for a large health care system in Cleveland, Ohio, which included overseeing operations & compliance of 65 multi-specialty clinics.

She was part of the team responsible for building 7Atlis, which is AAPC’s Compliance Solution Software with built-in exclusions check. She has been an auditing and compliance consultant for AAPC since 2009. She teaches the Certified Physician Practice Manager (CPPM) boot camp. She also co-authored AAPC’s online Certified Professional Compliance Officer (CPCO) course. Her passion is educating health care employees on compliance, HR management, ethics, quality reporting and performance improvement methodologies by writing educational articles, giving conference presentations/webinars, sitting on multiple compliance committees and clinical advisory boards.

She provides consulting throughout the US. She performs risk assessments, trains Compliance Officers, core employees & providers on federal regulations, Coding, denial management, auditing, quality measures and compliance expectations. She helps build necessary control measures to start a culture of compliance and teaches medical organizations how to sustain it. She also has served as a compliance subject matter expert in high-profile court cases.

Vishal Gandhi, BSEE, MBA, Founder & CEO, ClinicSpectrum, Inc.

Vishal is a well-known and widely respected authority on the “nitty-gritty” of medical practice workflow and technology. His Hybrid Workflow Model is quickly becoming a new healthcare industry standard model for combining human and computer workflow, to maximize revenue and minimize cost.

James Boazzo, Special Agent, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)

Special Agent James D. Boazzo joined the Bureau in 2008 and was assigned to the FBI Newark Division. SA Boazzo was assigned to the health care fraud squad where he oversaw the largest medical kickback case in US history in which a blood laboratory and numerous physicians participated in a scheme in which doctors were paid millions of dollars in bribes to order medically unnecessary blood tests and to send patient blood samples to the lab for testing. This investigation has resulted in over 40 convictions including 25 doctors and 15 laboratory personnel. In addition, this case has resulted in over $100 million in criminal forfeiture to include real estate, currency, vehicles, and jewelry. In addition, SA Boazzo has been the primary case agent on various other criminal and civil health care fraud investigations.

SA Boazzo is currently serving on a temporary duty assignment to FBI Headquarters in the Domestic Terrorism Operations Unit.

Prior to joining the FBI, SA Boazzo was a Certified Public Accountant at Deloitte and Touch LLP.

Jackie Stack, BSHA, CPC, CPC-I, CPB, CEMC, CFPC, CIMC, CPEDC, Director, ICD-10 Training and Education, AAPC

Jackie Stack is Director, ICD-10 Training and Education at AAPC. She is a highly accomplished healthcare professional with over 25 years of experience in healthcare administration, education, and compliance. She holds several AAPC specialty certifications and has a bachelor’s degree in Health Administration. She enjoys sharing her knowledge and experience as a certified PMCC instructor.

Jackie has also been a featured speaker at workshops and national coding conferences. She is actively involved with AAPC and has served on the NAB, various steering committees, and held the offices of president, secretary treasurer, and president-elect in her local chapter.

Bill Finerfrock, President, Capitol Associates, and Director of Government Affairs, HBMA

Bill Finerfrock has worked in and with the U.S. Congress and Federal agencies for more than two decades. He is the co-founder and Executive Director of the National Association of Rural Health Clinics. At Capitol Associates, he specializes in health care financing, health system reform, health workforce and rural health issues. Bill has been a speaker at numerous state and national health professional meetings and has been published extensively in newsletters and professional journals. He serves on the HBMA Government Relations Committee and is responsible for developing relationships with both governmental agencies and key legislative committees in order to monitor and advise HBMA on all legislation that comes before Congress that affects the billing industry. In addition to publishing a monthly government relations report to HBMA members, he monitors the regulatory agencies’ implementation of regulations.

Amy Redmond, CHBME, Vice President of Revenue Integrity, Innovative Healthcare Systems, Inc.

Amy Redmond has worked in the healthcare revenue cycle industry for more than ten years assisting organizations with revenue cycle excellence. Her expertise lies in achieving the operations efficiencies and compliance associated with revenue cycle management. Ms. Redmond first entered healthcare in the year 2005 and has excelled in her career at every level within Revenue Cycle Industry. Today, she serves as Vice President of Revenue Integrity of Innovative Healthcare Systems, Inc. in Edmond, Oklahoma.

Ms. Redmond holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Illinois State University and is the current Chair of HBMA’s Commercial Payor Relations Committee.

Matthew Albright, Senior Manager, CAQH CORE

Matthew Albright is a Senior Manager at CAQH CORE. Albright previously served at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) as both Acting Deputy Director of the Office of E-Health Standards and Services and Director of the Administrative Simplification Group. In those roles, he lead the drafting of the Administrative Simplification regulations mandated by the Affordable Care Act, including the adoption of the eligibility, claim status, EFT and ERA operating rules, Health Plan Identifier (HPID), ICD-10, and others. Before working for CMS, Albright drafted regulations for the Health Care Authority of Washington State. He has degrees from the University of Southern California, College of Santa Fe, and Harvard University, and is an adjunct faculty member of St. Martin’s University where he teaches philosophy.

Jim “Boots” Demarest, Executive Consultant, Afterburner, Inc., Former F-15 Instructor Pilot, USAF

Jim "Boots" Demarest is an F-15 Instructor Pilot and Mission Commander recognized as a Distinguished Graduate of the prestigious Air Force Fighter Weapon School "Top Gun" program. Boots, a Desert Storm veteran, has extensive business experience. After graduation from Cornell Law School as the Managing Editor of the Cornell Law Review, Boots spent over 9 years as a Commercial Litigation attorney in Florida.  Boots currently serves as a JAG in the Florida Air National Guard as a traditional guardsman.  His business experience includes serving as a litigation partner in a National law firm, owning and operating a martial arts school, and real estate investment and development projects in Southwest Florida.

Boots joined Afterburner in 2002 and has delivered his leadership and consulting experience to such companies as Sara Lee, Microsoft, Genentech, Pepsi, Principal Financial, Motorola, and teams in the National Football League, helping to develop their senior leadership teams through the full range of Afterburner's products and coaching programs.

Mark Lanterman has over 11 years of law enforcement experience as a police investigator, culminating as a member of the U.S. Secret Service Electronic Crimes Task Force. Lanterman has successfully led thousands of forensic investigations with large legal organizations, Fortune 500 corporations and governmental organizations.
