Bush Names Scully HCFA Administrator

Date: 3/26/2001
News: The White House has announced that President Bush intends to nominate Tom Scully as the next Administrator of the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA). Although this has been rumored for several weeks, this is the first on-the-record confirmation from the White House.

Mr. Scully has been serving as President of the Federation of American Health Systems, the trade association for for-profit hospitals and health systems, for the past several years. Scully previously served as Deputy Director of the Office of Management and Budget under former President Bush. Scully is a recognized expert on Medicare payment policy and brings a depth of knowledge about Medicare to his new position.

Initial reaction from influential Republicans and Democrats in Congress has been very favorable.
