Healthcare Billing & Management Association Announces Details for its 2011 Spring Educational Conference
San Antonio event will focus
on the latest regulations and technological advances
impacting the medical
billing industry
LAGUNA BEACH, Calif. — March 1, 2011 — The Healthcare Billing & Management Association (HBMA), a non-profit educational resource and advocacy group representing third-party medical billers and billing professionals, announced today details of the association’s 2011 Spring Educational Conference. This year’s conference takes place at the Grand Hyatt on the Riverwalk in San Antonio, Texas April 3-5, 2011, and will provide the educational awareness and tools that attendees need to prepare for imminent changes in the healthcare industry.
The spring meeting
features 15 separate educational sessions exploring core competency areas
including compliance, financial management, sales and marketing, technology,
strategic planning and legal issues. Following Monday’s Networking Luncheon,
attendees will have access to the Exhibitor Showcase and other special events, so
they may interact with medical billing industry peers, association leaders and
HBMA vendor affiliates. Session highlights include:

The conference also features HBMA’s Legislative Consultant, Bill Finerfrock’s “Washington Update” to provide insights into how pending legislation and regulations will affect the billing community.
“Taking place on the
famed and newly expanded River Walk, our Spring Conference has been
specifically designed to confront the challenges facing today’s third-party
billers and health care providers,” said HBMA President Jackie Willett, CHBME.
“From our dynamic keynote speaker and the ever-popular Washington Update
through our Exhibitor Showcase and this year’s off-site event at the Buckhorn
Saloon and Museum, attendees will enjoy a diverse selection of educational
sessions, networking opportunities and fun.”
The 1:30 p.m. Opening Keynote address on Sunday, April 3, features keynote speaker Catherine Hanson, JD, American Medical Association (AMA). Her presentation, entitled “Eliminating Cost & Angst: AMA’s National Health Insurer Report Card & Heal the Claims Process Campaign,” will focus on claims processing and related activity of the major health insurers. She will also discuss and identify solutions that can lead to the reduction of administrative costs and distrust among all health care industry stakeholders.
The Closing Keynote address on Tuesday, April 5, “Surviving & Thriving in a Changing Healthcare Environment” features HBMA Past President and Charter Member David Jakielo, CHBME. His focus will be to identify opportunities and develop strategies to ensure medical billers will remain viable for years to come. Participants will walk away from this final session with strategies to avoid pitfalls in the “New Medical Billing” arena.
Participants in the Spring Conference may earn up to 14 credits toward the designation of CHBME (Certified Healthcare Billing and Management Executive). Pre-Conference and Post-Conference courses each offer an additional 4.0 credits.
