CMS Extends MIPS Reporting Deadline
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced it is giving MIPS eligible clinicians (EC) a one month extension to report 2019 performance data. ECs now have until April 30, 2020 to report 2019 MIPS data.
MIPS ECs who do not report data by April 30th will receive an automatic extreme and uncontrollable circumstances exemption. These clinicians will be automatically identified and receive a neutral payment adjustment for the 2021 MIPS payment year. However, if a MIPS eligible clinician submits data on two or more MIPS performance categories, they will be scored and receive a 2021 MIPS payment adjustment based on their 2019 MIPS final score.
CMS is giving hospitals a similar extension for their quality reporting programs.
CMS also will not count a hospital’ data from January 1, 2020 through June 30, 2020 in their 2020 in their 2020 reporting for these programs. CMS is considering similar flexibilities for MIPS ECs but did not announced anything definitive. “CMS is evaluating options for providing relief around participation and data submission for 2020.”
