03/29/2013 - Medicare POS policy
As you know,
on April 1, the new Medicare policy on Place of Service (POS) will take effect. Since this new policy was announced last year,
HBMA, along with several other organizations (RBMA, ACR
and others) has been attempting to get CMS
to further revise this policy to more appropriately reflect how certain diagnostic
services are provided, particularly when the clinician is at a site remote from
where the diagnostic test was performed. While we were initially encouraged that CMS reacted positively to our
recommendation to delay the effective date of this policy, we are disappointed
that the agency has, in the end, largely ignored the concerns we and others
have been raising.
