Dues Structure


HBMA Membership Is Your Membership!

It’s a personal distinction and shows that you’re serious about your commitment as a healthcare billing and management professional. When you become an HBMA member, you have access to the best information, services, and personal relationships that the profession has to offer.

Beginning January 1, 2017, all memberships will run on an annual basis, beginning the first of the year and ending on December 31st. Current members will pay a prorated amount for 2017 based on their renewal date in 2017. You can become an HBMA member in one of six categories.

Corporate Membership Categories

  • Revenue Cycle Management Companies (RCM) – $495+ See Dues Schedule below
    • Revenue Cycle Management Companies are defined as any proprietorship or corporation in the business of producing and submitting initial claims or invoices for payment. A RCM company member is not an employee of the creditor, but is a Third Party biller, with the first party being the creditor and the second party being the patient, customer, or client.
  • Professional Billing Departments (PBD) – $495+ See Dues Schedule below
    • Professional Billing Department Members are companies which currently and actively produce and submit initial health care claims or invoices solely for payment on behalf of the PBD Member’s own organization.
  • Vendor Members – $1,010
    • Vendor Members include companies which supply products and services to the medical billing and revenue cycle management industry.
Individual Membership Categories
  • RCM Individual Members – $195
    • Individual Members of HBMA receive partial access to all the networking, educational and professional development benefits of HBMA.
  • PBD Individual Members – $195
    • Individual Members of HBMA receive partial access to all the networking, educational and professional development benefits of HBMA.
  • Student Members – $45
    • Student membership gives you the inside track on a career within the medical community. You start building the practical skills, in-depth knowledge, and professional relationships that will make you the job candidate companies want to hire. Join HBMA as a Student Member and receive real-world information direct from current experts in the field.

Dues Schedule

The membership dues for RCM Company and PBD Company Membership are based on the number of full time equivalent staff members supporting the billing and related operations of the respective companies, whether directly employed or contracted.

1 to 5 employees $495
6 to 15 employees $675
16 to 30 employees $845
31 to 60 employees $1010
61 to 90 employees $1180
91+ employees $1460

Notice: There is a $50 application fee. (Application fee is waived for student accounts.)

Deductibility of Membership Dues: For U.S. taxpayers, membership dues are not deductible as a charitable contribution, but a portion may be deducted as a business expense. Since HBMA engages in lobbying, under federal law 5% of membership dues are not deductible as a business expense.
