HBMA Hill Visit and Lobby DayMonday, June 11th 2012 9:58 am
Registration for the HBMA Hill Visit and Lobby Day closes June 14th, 2012! No late entries will be accepted. Recognizing the need to educate Congress about the critical issues affecting medical billing companies and physicians’ clients, the Healthcare Billing & Management Association (HBMA), is offering its first-ever 'How to Lobby' program with a visit to Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. on September 11th, 2012. HBMA also has prearranged meetings with Representatives or Senators or their staff, and a luncheon with key elected officials and staff to discuss updates and developments in healthcare reform. “The medical billing industry is experiencing a cascade of new regulation, audit, fraud and abuse activities, and financial pressures. As an industry, we advocate for administrative simplification, a less difficult claims submission process, and greater clarity and consistency in claims submission and payment policy,” says Jackie Willett, Government Relations Chair of the HBMA. “In many instances, the government has listened, but unfortunately their solution many times includes more regulation to clarify prior regulation, achieving the exact opposite of what was intended. Our industry needs a voice in Washington now more than ever.” The HBMA advocates on behalf of its membership and their clientele on many topics including ICD-10, HIPAA/HITECH, and EHRs. HBMA members submit nearly 80% of claims submitted by third-party medical billing companies and nearly one-third of all initial medical claims to the country's governmental and commercial payors, with the majority of the other two-thirds submitted directly by providers. Bill Finerfrock, Director of Government Affairs for HBMA, stated, “HBMA has a unique opportunity to get our members involved in the Association's efforts to educate Congress about the critical issues affecting medical billing companies and physicians.” To learn more about the HBMA, the HBMA Lobby Day and Hill Visit, or to register for this special event, go to www.hbma.org, click on Education & Certification, National Conference.
