Education Is on Our Mind HBMA IS REVAMPING ITS APPROACH TO EDUCATION, AND MEMBERS CAN ALREADY ACCESS A NEW EDUCATIONAL BENEFIT the March-April issue of Billing, HBMA President Jeanne Gilreath outlined the ways in which HBMA is rethinking its vision and mission. One area that will be affected is education. HBMA understands that our member companies have limited time to participate in meetings and educational programs. With that in mind, we are working to develop more online educational programs and keep our topics fresh and relevant to all members. Keeping Education Relevant It is no secret that billing companies are facing a number of challenges during these next several years. although there was at least a one year delay, the move from ICD-9 to ICD-10 still looms ahead and gives companies additional time to educate and train staff and clients. When the October 1, 2014 date appeared to be a certainty, HBma prepared a webinar series and held the first one. The others have been delayed for the time being. The ICD-10 webinar, held in February, laid out the key accomplishments providers must make before they can begin ICD-10 testing. Viewers of this webinar gained knowledge in such topics as payor test plans and approaches, testing impacts on staff and services, high-level ICD-10 compliance, and much more. Participants also received one credit toward Category Three of the Certified Healthcare Billing and management executive (CHBme) program. Education On Demand We know that you do not always have time to attend webinars when they are scheduled.
