are interested in testing with your organization. In order to carry this out, note that many applications assist in the process of translating codes from ICd-9 to ICd-10. For example, encoders provides a decision tree that assists the coder in selecting the final diagnosis or procedure code. similarly, natural language processing and computer-assisted coding identify key words and provide suggestions for coding from which the coder makes an assessment regarding the most appropriate code(s) for the service rendered. Finally, there are applications that can be used on a PC or a mobile device that offer translations. all coders should be mindful if using a translation based on general equivalency mappings (gems), as the result will not be the most specific code identifying the service. Native coding using the code books or use of a decision tree in combination with the coding references is the best practice for optimal coding.
