A Vision Realized NEW EDUCATIONAL EXECUTIVE SYMPOSIUM A SUCCESS “In times of drastic change, it is the learners who inherit the future. The learned find themselves equipped to live in a world that no longer exists.” – Eric Hoffer, author and philosopher HBMA’s Educational Executive Symposium, held April 7-9 in Naples, Florida, was a tremendous success. Keynote speaker Jackie Freiberg shared the quote above with us in her speech, and everyone who attended was indeed a learner during this changing time in our industry. If you participated, I encourage you to look for ways to implement what you learned at this conference into your own work and continue to share your stories of success and lessons gained with your fellow HBMA members. The lineup of speakers included Ted Stack, Nicole Harper, and, of course, our very own Bill Finerfrock. Attendees praised the conference programming and especially our keynote speaker, Jackie Freiberg, who brought some audience members to tears with her inspiring stories about the importance of organizational If you were not able to join us in Naples, remember – we have other educational conferences on the horizon. culture. One participant even shared after the conference that it was the “best and most relevant educational content in many, many years.” At the symposium, attendees were able to gain a considerable amount of fresh information (continuing to be learners) in a short amount of time. In addition to the outstanding educational sessions, we had more than 60 exhibitors join us to showcase their latest products and services. Participants also had the chance to meet Andre Williams, HBMA’s new executive director. While at the symposium, Andre had a full schedule of meetings, including his first in-person meeting with the board of directors as well as meetings with various chairs, vendors, and many HBMA members. Andre’s PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE knowledge of the RCM industry and his connections to Washington, DC, will be very helpful to the membership as we plan for the future of our organization. If you were not able to join us in Naples, remember – we have other educational conferences on the horizon. HBMA’s Fall Annual Conference will take the strategy and business planning tools executives gained in Naples and direct them to in-depth practical applications to engage these growth strategies to their fullest potential. So, make plans now for your team to join us in Las Vegas this September for the Fall Annual Conference. Our Education Committee has been working to evaluate our overall event strategy and how we can be responsive to the needs and comments you have shared with us. We are testing educational models, and I envision this year and next as “building years” during which time we establish our new program format and look beyond in-person events. Please be sure to reach out to Andre or me with questions, ideas, or concerns. We always appreciate your feedback.
